Confederate Force for Sharp Practice

Here they are, deployed and ready for battle.


I plan to add two more groups of regulars and a couple of leaders so that I can field two units of 24.  A mounted commander would be a nice addition too.  Also on the list are a couple of mounted units plus dismounted figures and horse holders.

After that I’ll need to look at adding support options such as a water cart, an ammunition wagon and a mule train.  Then there’s wounded markers, maybe some little dioramas for deployment points, etc.

Another Saturday at Bristol Independent Gaming playing Bolt Action with Wargames Table chum Orange Dave!! This time it's game five of our Italian campaign. The notorious Monte Cassino!! The battlefield map is shown below. Scenario map: published without permission ;o) Here's the table with all the troops in play. Dave's mega-hill does sterling service again! I put my best troops amongst the ruins on Monastery Hill with a strong secondary force holding Hill 444. By the way - we both missed the rule about the battlefield being impassable to vehicles - doh!? Dave's fine body of men! Indians and Kiwis - tough chaps all. Turn 1 saw a general advance mainly on the north-eastern flank of the hill. The tanks exchanged long range shots but the shells either missed or bounced off. Dave had deployed some smoke in turn 1 and now it rather usefully (for the Allies) drifted towards Monastery Hill. Turn 2 saw a little more shooting from the longer ranged element...

Saxon & Viking Personalities

It's been a bit quiet here on the Wargames Table recently, but now the rest of the figures are starting to roll off the production line! But first, an introduction... Throughout this year we (my wife and I) hope to be able to present a Saxons vs Vikings demo game of "The Battle of Ashingdon" using War & Conquest. We'll be attending a number of shows - though the exact schedule has yet to be confirmed with Rob at Scarab. However, our first outing will be to Crusade 2013 in Cardiff later this month. The Battle of Ashingdon (or Assandun) was fought on the 18th October 1016 and was to become an important - yet little acknowledged - battle in the history of England. The Saxons of King Edmund II "Ironside" and the Danish Vikings of Prince Cnut of Denmark had fought a lengthy and grueling campaign across southern England for more than a year when they met at Ashingdon on south Essex. Bolt Action - Must remember Tiger Fear!

No prizes for guessing which German special rule I completely forgot in this splendid game of Bolt Action with top chum Steve!  It’s been a little while since Steve and I had a game of BA.  He's been largely focussed on Kings (see report of our recent excellent encounter here ) but was now keen to dust off his lovely Russian army.  We were due to play in his man-cave (a spacious garden shed) but the very hot weather meant we de-camped to the somewhat cooler climes of his lounge. Here’s the table – I particularly like the effect given by the lichen.  Must get me a bag! Somewhere in the east... After the obligatory cup of tea and a good chin-wag we set to with Key Positions again (well, that scenario with Dave was a hoot). Turn 1 With no troops starting on the table (other than snipers and observers) this turn was all about advancing.  My chaps made the best use of the cover afforded by the church walls in the centre and the orchard on the right flan...
