War & Conquest 2nd Gaming Day

Sunday 19th August saw the second of the War & Conquest gaming days, organised by Scarab Miniatures and hosted at the Iron Acton village hall. I took along my EIR to the first gaming day earlier this year, so I thought I'd give my British Celts a whirl this time. It was a 2,000pt army consisting of Warlord, Army Standard & 30 Noble Warriors Chieftain & 31 Warriors Chieftain & 31 Warriors 24 Warriors 10 Light Cavalry 11 Slingers 11 Skirmishers (javelins) 5 Chariots The day was organised in to three sessions, each with a specified deployment area and method, all drawn from the very useful "Battle Begins" section of the rulebook. For each game the players also drew specific battlefield objectives. Game 1 was against Paul's splendid looking Caesarian Roman army. Warg Riders

Quite a few years ago these figures were partially painted then went back in to storage. But alas the box they were in somehow got rather squashed and many of the figures were quite badly damaged, especially the plastic models. However, with all this renewed enthusiasm for LotR I decided to have a go at repairing them and finishing off the painting ... and I'm rather pleased that I did! (To think that I nearly threw them away at one point too!). Anyway, here they are. They are mix of the plastic and metal boxed sets that GW brought out some years back. The metal figures just got a bit 'bent' with the odd arm breaking off. The plastics really needed some TLC to get them back in shape. As you can see, one of the bases had to be replaced. They took quite a beating!? The paint scheme is deliberately simple, keeping to a small palette of mainly browns and greys. I'm looking forward to getting them on the table for a game.

Palm Trees - More Charlie Foxtrot Tree Bases

I've had these trees for a while now (Thank you, Colin!) but until recently I've not had much reason to do anything with them.  However, Orange Dave and I are looking to begin a series of games in North Africa... Monty versus Rommel of course!  This nicely aligns with the forthcoming Warlord/Osprey title The Western Desert .  Anyway, it gave me the spur to get them based up.  They range in height from 4cm to approx 22cm. To give the larger trees a firm fixing to the bases I found some 12mm flat headed nails.  These were glued to the round bases with Araldite.  The smaller palms were glued directly to the bases. These are not improvised caltrops! Work in progress.  I trimmed the bases of the larger palms so be flat then carefully drilled a hole up the stem.  The tree could then be glued on to the nail. Some blu-tak helps to keep them in just the right position whilst the glue dries. Here are the larger bases with trees in situ ....
